The Season of Becoming

I saw a video the other day that really stuck with me. In the video this message was discussed: “Singleness is lonely when we make it about us. But singleness is sacred when we make it about God.”
He went on to talk about Adam in the garden, and how it wasn’t until the Lord took a rib from Adam’s side and made woman that Adam even knew he was alone. He explained that before that moment, Adam was fully devoted to the work that God had given him. He was fixated on serving his purpose in the garden and being a good steward over what the Lord had placed in his care.
And when God saw that devotion and stewardship, He knew that Adam was ready. God knew Adam would take care of Eve with the same care, love, and fervor that he had shown in taking care of the garden.
That part really affected me. Because it made me realize how special this season of life is; this time where we get to take care of our own gardens that God has given us. It’s easy to look around and compare our situations to other people’s. I’ve had so many conversations with friends lately about this exact thing, trying to understand the waiting period we’re in. We talk about the timing of things, about wanting to be in the next season, about wondering when our prayers will be answered.
But what if this waiting season is actually one of the most sacred parts of our story?
We are in a time where we get to grow, to tend, to take care of what God has already placed in our hands. Our gardens might look different; maybe it’s our careers, our callings, our friendships, our faith, or even our healing. But whatever it is, it’s something that God has trusted us to nurture.
And when we are faithful with what He has already given us, He promises that He will give us more. He will cause our cups to run over. We won’t have to strive or wonder or question when we’ll be ready, because when God sees that we are fit and ready, He will bring what’s meant for us in His perfect timing.
So instead of focusing on what we don’t have, I’m learning to focus on what we do have; the gardens that God has already blessed us with. To take good care of them. To be grateful for them. To see this season not as something to rush through, but as something to cherish.
Because this time is not a punishment. It’s preparation.
And when we make it about God, it’s sacred.
